Dipl.-Ing. Thorsten Mueller is a scientist at Fraunhofer IZFP in Saarbruecken (Germany) and works as Business Development Manager. He obtained his diploma at the University of Applied Sciences in Saarbruecken in the field of electrical engineering. He has 20 years of experience in NDT methods and techniques in several research fields like Thermography Thermal testing, Eddy Current Testing, Micro magnetic methods and devices, forming technologies - processes and testing methods, Integration and implementation of testing methods and systems in process chains, Electromagnetic ultrasound (EMAT) and Trainings / educations / seminars for mentioned technologies and applications.

主讲内容简介:

The non-destructive testing (NDT) of materials and components can essentially be divided into two areas: - The first task is the detection, classification and sizing of material defects, also known as material irregularities or material flaws. During material production, material defects can occur at any stage, i.e. during the primary forming of semi-finished products, during forming such as rolling, forging, kneading, deep drawing and during joining such as welding, riveting and bonding. Manufacturing defects should be detected at the earliest possible stage, if possible during the production process.

The second task of NDT is to characterize the material structure. This can be achieved by the non-destructive determination of various material parameters. Physical measurement techniques are used as test methods. They are based on the interaction of certain forms of energy with the material to be tested.

In order to use these measurement techniques, however, certain regulations are required in the form of standards that must be applied and followed during testing.

This lecture shows how and which standards are used for non-destructive testing. In addition, examples of different NDT methods and their application examples will be shown. Before using a measuring system, you need the physical know-how as well as the standards to ensure certified use.
