主讲人简介:
Prof Wynand Steyn is Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Civil Engineering and full professor (focusing on road pavement related subjects) at the University of Pretoria. He is a professionally registered pavement engineer with a research interest in vehicle-pavement interaction, accelerated pavement testing, pavement engineering, pavement materials and instrumentation. He has authored, co-authored and edited 29 journal papers, 20 book chapters (author / co-author / editor) and 100 conference papers. He is Associate Editor of the International Journal for Pavement Engineering and has a B3 National Research Foundation (NRF). He is a Member of the South African Institution of Civil Engineers, a Fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering (SAAE) and an adjunct professor in road engineering at the Chang’an University in Xian, China. He serves on Technical committees of the TRB and WTC.
主讲内容简介:
Much research is conducted on the vehicle technologies required for operation of Autonomous Vehicles (AV) on public roads, as well as the interaction between these vehicles and the road environment. However, the research regarding the effect of AV operations on road pavement infrastructure is limited. It includes issues such as the effect of more channelized traffic loading, shorter inter-vehicle following distances, continuous data collection from roads and vehicles, and potential higher traffic volumes of more uniform vehicle types and loads.
In this presentation the application of existing, and generation of new, applicable Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) data in understanding these effects and provision of guidance in the preparation of road pavement infrastructure for AV is discussed, together with the implications of continuous data collection from pavements and vehicles on the data obtained from APT and applied in pavement management, to ensure that future road pavement infrastructure can cope with the anticipated effects of increased AV use.
